The Challenge

The Chesapeake is a full-service continuing care retirement community (CCRC), offering a unique blend of healthcare services and retirement living.

Today's retirees are seeking residential options that offer safe and secure environments without compromising their freedom. In addition to medical and resident check-in systems, The Chesapeake needed to offer fire protection and security services, multimedia distribution, and robust telephone and data networks to an entire campus of facilities. These systems had to be invisibly distributed throughout the community and interfaced at a central location, so that staff could monitor them without invading the privacy of the residents.
The Chesapeake selected AE Systems to fulfill their technology integration requirements.

The Solution

AE Systems selected the Rauland-Borg Responder® IV Integrated Communication Network for The Chesapeake's medical facilities. The Responder IV combines traditional nurse call systems with advanced communication devices, such as wireless telephones and pocket pagers.

The Tel-Tron FlexView® was chosen as The Chesapeake's Urgent Call / Resident Check-In system. An unobtrusive check-in station in each residence and optional, attractive, pendant-style wireless transmitters allow staff to monitor resident well-being without inconvenience or invasion of privacy. In addition, the EXI RoamAlert® Patient Wandering System helps medical staff track patients in the Dementia Unit.

To supplement these life safety technologies, AE Systems also provided Fire Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV Security systems throughout The Chesapeake's campus.

For The Chesapeake's Community Center, AE Systems designed professional sound reinforcement systems in the Multipurpose and Dining Rooms. Background music systems were installed in the Lobby, Bistro, and Pool Area. An in-house video distribution system broadcasts television stations, live activities from around the campus, and CCTV channels to every resident. Finally, the entire facility was provided with a comprehensive telephone/data network with voicemail and high-speed internet access.
